Hey Tom, Just got your Fire Island Pines book and it really brought back a lot of memories of New York and being out on Fire Island in the late 70's and early 80's. It actually made my cry.. thinking about all the friends I would spend summers with in the Pines who are no longer here and who have been gone for some time. I worked as a print model in NYC at that time, so life was about fun and friends. I had a lots of boyfriends and some wonderful times, all great memories. I am an artist now living in L. A. with a great partner . Your book is a beautiful documentation of our lives. Thank you

Thanks for your comment Steven, many people are identified in the memoir at the front of the book with a link to their photo page. I know the names of most of the people photographed for the book. Sadly few are still with us today. Ben and I recording many details relating to the archives and most peoples names are recorded with each shoot and relevant model release. We hope you enjoy the book.

I'm curious whether you recorded your subjects' identities when you took their picture. It would be interesting to some day research what happened to them.

In researching social history, an especially vexing obstacle has been unidentified subjects in vintage photographs. With identities, I can research back stories and use photos to illustrate history rather than ambiance.

Some day, some historian will examine your collection for clues to particular questions. Identified subjects would be valuable information to them, and increase the importance of your work.

In any event, I look forward to your Fire Island Pines.

So very, very & tragically true. My Father passed away before I told him that I was gay, but I know he knew. And when I told my Mother, she first told me that my Father would be turning over in his grave. That was when I was 30. When my partner of 14 years died of AIDS in 1994, it took my Mom about a year to finally tell me that she knew, that I knew, the meaning of loss - her way of finally telling me that she realized the love I had for another man. To her dying day, from then, she could not have loved me more - but I know she prayed every day for me to be "straight." Thank you for writing such a poignant statement of your life. I will keep you in my thoughts when I pray to the Lord each evening . . . Tom, the best for you -
